AK Fentanyl Response Project: Community Presentation & Training Event
This month, Sandy Snodgrass with the AK Fentanyl Response Project is visiting Fairbanks to educate our community on the dangers of fentanyl, related legislation, and provide training on the use of Naloxone Kits.
Sandy is an Anchorage resident and mother to Bruce Snodgrass; a 22-year-old who lost his life due to a fentanyl overdose in 2021. In the time since, Sandy has dedicated herself to sharing her story as a means of increasing awareness and advocating for legislative action, as well as the importance of Naloxone Kit availability and training. In June of 2022, legislative progress when a bill titled "Bruce's Law", in honor of Sandy's son, was officially introduced to Congress by Senators Lisa Murkowski and Dan Sullivan of Alaska, as well as Senators Dianne Feinstein of California and Maggie Hassan of New Hampshire. If passed, the bill would authorize a public education and awareness campaign focused on the dangers of drugs that could be contaminated with fentanyl and additional preventative measures relating to drug use and addiction.
During her visit to Fairbanks, Sandy will be joining Mayor David Pruhs on his radio show, "Problem Corner", during the January 17 broadcast from 11am-12pm on KFAR (97.5FM or 660AM).
On January 19, she will be providing a public presentation in Council Chambers at City Hall. This community event will begin at 2pm with a screening of the documentary film "Dead on Arrival"*, followed by Sandy's presentation and an open comment period. Naloxone Kit training will be held from 3:00pm - 3:30pm.
The City of Fairbanks' Public Works crews will also receive a briefing from Sandy during her visit. This valuable educational opportunity will help to provide employees in frontline positions with life-saving skills and materials.
