INCIDENT: Multiple charges-Southern Avenue
CASE #: 18-4206

This morning at approximately 10:14 a.m., the Fairbanks Police Department and the Alaska State Troopers responded to Southern Avenue in the Aurora Subdivision for a reported home invasion. Upon arrival, Officers discovered that one resident of the home and one suspect had been shot inside the residence.

Witnesses at the residence stated that two males with guns, dressed in black, forced open the front door and shot their roommate. Witnesses further stated that their roommate was shot and was able to shoot one of the suspects who collapsed on scene. Both the resident and suspect were treated by Fairbanks Fire Department and were transported to Fairbanks Memorial Hospital with serious injuries. The second suspect, later identified as 23-year-old WILLIAM VENT, fled the residence prior to police arrival, but was apprehended at College and Aurora by an Alaska State Trooper.

After further investigation, VENT was remanded at the Fairbanks Correctional Center on charges of:
ASSAULT IN THE 1ST DEGREE
BURGLARY IN THE 1ST DEGREE
ROBBERY IN THE 1ST DEGREE
MISCONDUCT INVOLVING A WEAPON IN THE 3RD DEGREE

The second suspect was identified as 38 year-old MICHAEL BEARD and is receiving treatment for serious injuries. It is expected that charges will be filed for BEARD as well.
