DATE:   January 16, 2019     INCIDENT:   Homicide-Bridget Avenue CASE #: 19-188

On Tuesday, January 15, 2019 at approximately 10:00 p.m., the Fairbanks Police Department responded to a residence on Bridget Avenue.  The caller reported that he hadn’t heard from his friend in approximately a week.  He went by to check on his friend and found the normally tidy residence had a strong odor and was very messy.  He found the victim in bed with a hand exposed that was discolored.  He went to a neighbor and called 911 to report she was deceased.

Officers responded to the residence and during a sweep of the apartment, found a person hiding inside the bathroom.  Hiding in the bathroom was the victim’s son, GEORGE TUUKGAQ ROSA (DOB 10/4/1984).  Officers also discovered the victim deceased in bed in the back bedroom covered with blankets.

ROSA was behaving erratically and made initial statements indicating he had killed his mother.   During the subsequent investigation ROSA confessed to choking his mother to death approximately five to six days ago.   ROSA continued to reside in the apartment with her until police arrived.

Next of kin for the victim, MOLLY AGNAVIGAK ROSA (DOB 6/6/1948), has been notified.

The suspect, G. ROSA, was remanded this morning at the Fairbanks Correctional Center on charges of MURDER IN THE FIRST DEGREE.
