FPD Deputy Chief Brad Johnson Retires After 25 Years

Deputy Chief Retirement

Deputy Chief Johnson began serving with the Fairbanks Police Department in March of 1993.  He worked as a patrol officer before being promoted to Sergeant in 1995.  He was promoted to Lieutenant and Deputy Chief in 2005.  Brad has served as the Deputy Chief from 2005 until now.  During Deputy Chief Johnson’s time with the Police Department, he has been a part of virtually all major departmental projects.

He was instrumental in the development of the entire computer system, the migration of the radio system, the design and construction of the new building, and the graphics redesign of our patrol vehicles.  Brad obtained countless grants which provided much needed equipment to modernize the department.  He served as an Field Training Officer, Patrol Supervisor, and was a 12-year member of our Tactical Team.  He was a driving force behind the security component for the 2014 Arctic Winter Games which took place in Fairbanks.  He has served as interim chief numerous times, which always provided a smooth transition and a continuation of knowledge.

Beyond Brad’s direct contribution to the department, he has been an active member in the state law enforcement community and the Fairbanks community.  Brad has served as board president or board member for the following organizations: AACOP (Alaska Association of Chiefs of Police), APOA (Alaska Peace Officers Association), Food Bank, ALMR (Alaska Land Mobile Radio), and CJIS (Criminal Justice Information Systems).  He has also been a long standing member of Fairbanks Rotary.

We wish Brad well as he moves on to his new position with the Idaho Peace Officer Standards and Training Division with the Idaho State Police. We'll miss you Brad!
