FPD Crime Scene Investigator Achieves ABMDI Certification!

Crime Scene Investigator

Congratulations to FPD Crime Scene Investigator Shasta Pomeroy on receiving her American Board of Medicolegal Death Investigators (ABMDI) certification! The ABMDI is a nationwide medicolegal death investigation certification agency and is recognized as an authority in death investigations.

In order to achieve certification, Pomeroy had to complete a certain amount of hours in viewing autopsies, various death investigation trainings, on-scene hours in processing all manners of death scenes, and apply her advanced degrees (Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Justice) to be reviewed for the certification board. The State of Alaska Medical Examiner’s Office mentored Pomeroy during her efforts to acquire this certification. The final step was completing a comprehensive certification exam covering all necessary and required aspects of death investigations.

With this certification, Pomeroy is now a registered medicolegal death investigator with the ABMDI, and the professional development allows her to have more knowledge and experience for processing death scenes and assisting in solving crimes here in Fairbanks. Pomeroy has worked for Fairbanks Police Department since February of 2016.

We are so proud to work alongside accomplished individuals such as Shasta. She is an amazing asset to our department and to the Fairbanks community!
