On Tuesday, July 13th, at approximately 3:26am, Fairbanks Emergency Communication Center dispatched Fairbanks Police officers to 418 Third Street (Eagle Plaza Mall) after multiple burglar alarms were activated at the address.

When officers arrived on scene they observed two males, later identified as EVERETT ALOYSIUS (DOB 05/04/03) and LANDON ZARETH PAUL (DOB 04/13/02) sitting on the sidewalk along the eastside of the Eagle Plaza Mall. One of the officers informed the two that there were alarms going off at the Comic Shop and asked if they had seen anything. The two males stated that they had heard glass breaking. While speaking to them, the officer noted that ALOYSIUS was bleeding slightly from some small cuts to his hands and right knee and that PAUL sounded as though he had a considerable amount of change in his pocket. Two Samsung tablets as well as two Golden Bowl brand fortune cookies were on the sidewalk where the males were sitting. PAUL was also in possession of multiple playing cards that were still in their protective sleeves.

Investigation revealed that several businesses in the area had been burglarized and vandalized including Comic Shop, the Fed Ex Office Store, and AK Buffet. While investigating these incidents, one of the officers was contacted by someone from Northern Powerline Constructors who reported that one of their Caterpillar TL1055 forklifts had been vandalized and there were shoe prints all around the forklift. Altogether there was thousands of dollars’ worth of damage done, as well as cash and electronics stolen.

ALOYSIUS and PAUL were detained as part of the investigation and $1,717 in cash was removed from ALOYSIUS’ pocket during a pat down for weapons. It was also noted that ALOYSIUS had fragments of glass on and inside his shoes. PAUL became uncooperative when officers detained him and began resisting arrest. After being placed in the patrol car, he kicked at officers and then began kicking the door and window of the patrol vehicle. Officers had to then remove PAUL from the car to place him in leg restraints, and during the lengthy struggle he kicked one officer in the head before being secured in leg restraints and being placed in the patrol car.

A review of Eagle Plaza Mall video footage from security cameras located outside the Comic Shop door showed PAUL and ALOYSIUS both kick and break the glass on the door to the Fed Ex Store before crawling through the broken laminated glass. The suspects’ shoe prints were also matched up to the prints around the forklift that had been vandalized. Both suspects were booked at Fairbanks Correctional Center on the following charges:
