2019 Police Memorial Day

PMD

On Friday, May 17th, 2019 the City of Fairbanks Police Department joined law enforcements agencies in the interior in honoring law enforcement officers that have made the ultimate sacrifice. Dating back to 1897, there have been 71 law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty while serving the communities across Alaska.

Alaska Peace Officers Association organized the program, and speakers included Governor Dunleavy, City of Fairbanks Mayor Matherly, and Alaska State Trooper’s Lt. Brian Wassmann.

The City of Fairbanks is happy to support our officers that currently serve in our community. We remember that they, like those that have given their lives, are making sacrifices every day that go unseen by the public. For those that have fallen, it’s important to remember that the incidents that took those officers’ lives were one of thousands of dangerous situations that they experienced through their career. They must be remembered not just for their last call, but for all the sacrifices they made and for all the good that they did over the years.
