You may be eligible to receive a discount on your garbage bill if you are a senior citizen (age 65) years or older, or a person at least 60 years of age who is the widow or widower of a person who was receiving a senior citizen discount at the time of his or her death. To receive the discount, you must apply to the Office of the City Clerk with proof of age. A notarized statement is necessary, so government issued picture identification will be required. The discounted rate will become effective on the first billing quarter following a qualified filing.
To be eligible for Senior Citizen Discount you must:
- Be a person age sixty-five (65) years and older.
- Be the legal owner of the residence and must occupy the residence for which the rate will be applied.
Please note that Ordinance No. 5869, adopted December 12, 2011, states that “A qualified senior citizen need not file such an application for successive years if there is no change to ownership, no change in permanent place of abode, and no change as to the owner of record.”
