The Sister City relationship between Fanano, Italy, and Fairbanks, Alaska, was established to honor the birthplace of Felix Pedro (in Italian “Felice Pedroni”), in 2002. Pedro’s discovery of gold on July 22, 1902, launched a series of events that helped establish Fairbanks. Since 2002 there have been regular exchanges between our two cities. This year Festival Fairbanks hosted five visitors from Italy including the Great Grand Nephew of Felix Pedro, Adriano Pedroni.
Festivities included the Felix Pedro Monument Rededication Ceremony hosted by the Pioneers of Alaska Igloo #4.
