On June 17th, Mayor Eberhart attended a naturalization ceremony at the Federal Courthouse in Fairbanks, before Magistrate Judge Oravec. Fairbanks Police Chief Randall Aragon was the keynote speaker.
29 persons became new citizens of the United States. Mayor Eberhart spoke and reminded them of the words on the Great Seal of the United States “E Pluribus Unum”, Latin for “from many one”. Our diversity is one of our country’s great strengths. The Mayor stated that Fairbanks is a diverse, multicultural community and he welcomed each of their cultures, traditions, and wisdom as a rich part of the fabric of our community.
Mayor Eberhart encouraged the new citizens to become active citizens, get involved, make the most of their opportunities, take an interest in government, exercise their right to vote, and make a better life for themselves and their children. The Mayor urged them to bring their ideas, suggestions and feedback to the City. It takes all of us working together to make our Golden Heart City stronger.
Congratulations, new citizens, and welcome to these United States!
