Media Release-Fire Damages Duplex-Displaces Occupants

SUBJECT:         Fire Damages Duplex…Displaced Occupants

For Immediate Release: Fairbanks, AK:  On Monday 4/8/13 at about 3:00 AM a fire damaged a portion of a duplex located at 1522 24th Ave. When the fire department arrived about 4 minutes after the 911 call, fire was found burning on the front wall and roof area of one of the duplex. Fire was quickly controlled and extinguished. Crews remained on scene for several hours removing smoldering cellulose insulation from the roof area. Both apartments were occupied at the time of the fire and all escaped uninjured. The occupants of one apartment were displaced as a result of the damage by the fire. The fire originated in the front portion of the apartment. The cause is under investigation by the Fairbanks Fire Department.

There were no injuries. Damage by the fire is estimated at $20,000.

Fire units from the Fairbanks Fire Department responded along with mutual aid from University Fire Department and Ft. Wainwright Fire Department.
