Fairbanks Diversity Council (FDC) Works on Draft Diversity Action Plan (DAP)
Over the past several months, members of the Fairbanks Diversity Council have been working on a Diversity Action Plan (DAP) through the strategic planning process. Although the DAP is not yet finalized, the group has identified goals for the plan, some of which were mandated by City Ordinance, and many others identified by the group as being primary diversity needs for the City of Fairbanks and the Fairbanks North Star Borough.
Shortened summaries of some of the goals include: Reviewing internal processes for recruiting and hiring, securing financial resources to implement the DAP, reviewing internal policies and procedures, providing education and training on diversity, performing community outreach to foster awareness and give a safe venue for expression of diverse outlooks, and to promote diverse and cross-cultural activities to increase community involvement.
The FDC members have identified the need to develop four committees in the following areas: Education and Outreach, Policy and Procedure, Media and Communications, and an Accessibility Committee. If you are interested in attending the next FDC meeting to learn more, please join us on May 12 at 5:30 p.m. in Council Chambers at City Hall. All are welcome!
