With the upcoming retirement of Fairbanks Police Chief Eric Jewkes, the City of Fairbanks has been in the process of hiring a new Police Chief. Last Friday, five applicants were interviewed by a panel consisting of City of Fairbanks Department Heads, as well as Law Enforcement, Military, and Community Leaders. This panel recommended three finalists to advance to the next step.

The three finalists will participate in a Community Forum next Monday, April 15th at 5:00pm in City Council Chambers, at which point they will answer questions that have been provided by the Fairbanks Diversity Council and City Administration. This event is open to the public and will also be streamed online through our website (https://www.fairbanksalaska.us/citycouncil/page/listen-live). Following the forum, the interview panelists will reconvene to discuss the applicants in order to make a hiring recommendation to the Mayor.

The three applicant finalists are Gregory Foster, Ryan Gillogly, and Nancy Reeder.

Gregory Foster grew up in Fairbanks and has been with Fairbanks Police Department since 1998. In addition to working his way up through the ranks from Officer, to Patrol Sergeant, and now Patrol Lieutenant, Foster spent eight years as a K9 Officer, has been a member of the Tactical Police Team for 19 years, and is currently the Team Commander for the Tactical Police Team. Lt. Foster recently attended the 275th session of the National FBI Academy.

Ryan Gillogly has lived in Fairbanks since 2014 and is currently the Ft. Wainwright Provost Marshal/Director of Emergency Services where he leads a team of 120 law enforcement, security, fire, and emergency service personnel. Directly prior to his current position, he served as a Professor of Military Science at the UAF Senior Reserve Officer Training Program. He has 22 years of experience in a variety of military law enforcement and public safety positions. Gillogly has had the opportunity to serve in several different locations, including overseas.

Nancy Reeder is currently a Lieutenant for the Anchorage Police Department. She started her law enforcement career with Anchorage Police in 1984 and has served as Police Officer, Detective, Traffic Sergeant, and Lieutenant for several units including Traffic, Detective, Administration, Patrol, and Internal Affairs. Prior to her career at Anchorage Police Department, Reeder served as a Sergeant in the US Air Force for 4 years and a Staff Sergeant in the Alaska Air National Guard for 2 years.
