The City of Fairbanks joined in celebrations this weekend of Juneteenth, celebrating the abolition of slavery in Texas after the Civil War. Mayor Eberhart was at the Juneteenth picnic, along with the Fairbanks Diversity Council, our Fairbanks Fire Department, the local Red Cross, the NAACP, the Breast Cancer Awareness Center of Fairbanks and others.
Pictured are the Pavva Inupiaq Dancers. They invited everyone to come up and join them in a dance that celebrates coming together and welcoming everyone. It was a great day, enjoyed by many.
Thanks to the NAACP and all of the organizers of the Juneteenth event.
