Motorcycle Unit

2006 marked the Fairbanks Police Department’s fifth year of Motor Unit operations. As in past years, the program was sponsored through the Harley Davidson Farthest- North Outpost, who provides two motorcycles for summertime use through a $1.00/month Cops-on-Bikes rental fee program. The bikes are returned and offered for sale at the end of each riding season.

Duties of the Motor Unit include traffic enforcement and special events such as parades and escorts. The Motor Unit supports such annual events as the Harley Owner’s Group Chatanika Run, the Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run, and the Midnight Sun Run, as well as leading the Golden Days and Labor Day parades.

Motor Unit Officers are volunteers from Patrol Division who do not receive added compensation for membership in the Unit and donate their maintenance and prep-time for these events.
