Duplex Fire

For Immediate Release - Fairbanks, AK: 

 

Saturday, February 23rd, at approximately 9:50am, the Fairbanks Emergency Communication Center received several 911 calls regarding a structure fire at 540 10th Avenue. Due to the close proximity of Fire Station One, Fairbanks Firefighters were able to arrive very quickly and began fighting the fire. Fairbanks Police Officers arrived to assist in shutting down 10th Avenue and contacting residents. UAF Fire Department and Ft. Wainwright Fire Department also responded to fight the fire.

The structure was a duplex, and the fire was extinguished in approximately 15 minutes. 10th Avenue was reopened in less than an hour. The structure is not currently habitable due to the damage, and 2 residents have been displaced. Red Cross is assisting those residents. Unfortunately, two dogs perished in the fire.
