Fire Science Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT)

The Fire Science Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) test is a pass/fail test of eight critical physical tasks that simulate actual job duties on the fireground:

Stair Climb
Hose Drag
Equipment Carry
Ladder Raise and Extension
Forcible Entry
Search
Rescue
Ceiling Breach and Pull

CPAT tests major areas of physical fitness: flexibility, cardiopulmonary endurance, muscular strength and muscular endurance. Candidates wear a 50-pound pack during the test.
