5/30/21 - Structure Fire - 530 Front Street

530 front street

On Sunday, May 30th at 6:08pm, FFD responded to a fire at 530 Front Street. Units arrived to find a 15 X 20 outbuilding fully involved on the property with structures on the property next door threatened.  The main structure that had previously burned on the property was threatened but did not catch fire.  Multiple small explosions occurred and the property conditions hindered extinguishment efforts.  The fire was controlled in approximately 15 minutes, but the overhaul of the contents took another 1 ½ hours.  Assistance was provided by Ft. Wainwright Fire Department and University Fire Department.

The cause of the fire is still undetermined.  The explosions were most likely caused by spray cans or small propane cylinders.

Given the hazardous conditions currently existing on the property, we were extremely fortunate that no injuries occurred.

The City has made it a priority to get the property owner to clean up the property, as this is not the first time FFD has had to respond to a dangerous fire at this address.
