Community Working Together to Remove Logjam

This morning a joint effort by the City of Fairbanks, Fairbanks North Star Borough, and the Alaska DOT&PF came together to remove the logjam at Wendell Avenue Bridge.  The massive logjam has been building and, with the high water from the rain, it became necessary to remove it for life safety reasons.

The State provided the crane with operator, flaggers, and a boat for removal of any logs that float downstream.  The City provided the fire fighters rescue crew in the water for any need that may arise and the Public Works Department will haul the debris away.  Tanana Chiefs Conference will take some of the wood for use at the Chief David Salmon Tribal Hall and other uses.  The Fairbanks North Star Borough waived the tipping fee at the landfill.

Thank you to all involved for making this joint effort a success.
