Recently, 13 persons graduated from the City of Fairbanks Police Department’s Citizens Police Academy. The annual Citizens Police Academy gives participants insight into what is involved in the work of our Police Department. The 12 week course includes a tour of the police station, exposure to the UAF justice program, a K9 demonstration, criminal investigations, community policing, patrol procedures, criminal procedures, traffic accident investigation, traffic law/DUI investigation, firearms, the tactical police team, traffic stops, use of force, gangs, property crimes, family violence, protective orders , child abuse and, everyone’s favorite, the ride along.
The graduates left with a much better understanding of what our Police Department does, a greater respect for what officers are challenged with every day, and a desire to help others to understand how our Police Department functions.
Officer Dennis Benn was the course instructor but many other officers helped throughout the course. Congratulation graduates. Thank you, City of Fairbanks Police Department.
