The Clay Street Cemetery Commission accepted a $4,000 donation from the Rotary Club of Fairbanks at their regular monthly meeting of July 1, 2015. The Commission actively seeks donations from local organizations for the restoration of the City’s historic Clay Street Cemetery. The donated funds will be primarily used to purchase new headstones for unmarked graves in the cemetery. The City of Fairbanks and the Clay Street Cemetery Commission would like to thank the Rotary Club for their generous donation!

The Clay Street Cemetery Commission is looking for old photographs, burial records and historical information regarding the Clay Street Cemetery. If you have information you would like to share, please contact the City Clerk’s Office at (907) 459-6774 or by email at email@example.com. If you would like to meet with the Commission, they invite you to attend their regular meetings at City Hall, City Council Chambers, 800 Cushman Street, Fairbanks, AK on the first Wednesday of every month starting at 5:00 P.M.
In August, Boy Scout Troop 2 helped place new grave markers at Fairbanks’ historic Clay Street Cemetery. The City-owned cemetery is on the National Register of Historic Places and is one of the oldest remaining historic landmarks in Fairbanks.
Troop members who participated were Darin Cheney, Ryan Watson, Vincent Goffredo, Isaac Hendrickson, John Walls, Kyle Williams and KaLolo Ho Chee. Clay Street Cemetery Commissioners Bill Robertson, Kate Ripley and Anne Castle were also present to offer logistical support. Joseph Stone oversaw the project as part of his Eagle Scout ranging. On March 10, 2014 the Fairbanks City Council adopted Ordinance No. 5939 creating a Fairbanks Diversity Council (FDC). Mayor Eberhart invites you to serve our community by applying for a seat on this commission.
The purpose of the FDC is to provide a citizens’ forum to the City Council and the Borough Assembly, provide advice and recommendations to promote equal opportunity for all members of the public, serve as a diversity advisory board, and recommend adoption of a Diversity Action Plan. The FDC will consist of 15 voting members, 12 of which will be appointed by the City Mayor and subject to approval by the City Council. Eight of those 12 members must be residents of the City of Fairbanks. Three of the voting members will be appointed by the Fairbanks North Star Borough (FNSB) Mayor, subject to confirmation by the Borough Assembly.
