The City of Fairbanks will be reconstructing Kennicott, McCarty, Wild Rose, & 16th Avenues and Ash, Bluebell, & Buttercup Streets this summer, and is hosting a second public meeting for the project on February 26 from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. at City Hall (800 Cushman Street, 2nd floor).
During the first public meeting held on December 18, a number of residents expressed interest in improving the on-street parking layout on Kennicott and McCarty Avenues, as well as providing traffic calming measures on Kennicott Avenue. One idea that was brought up during the meeting to accomplish these objectives was to change Kennecott and McCarty Avenues from two-way to one-way traffic between Lathrop and Ash Streets. This proposed alternative would not only provide better opportunity for on-street parking, but also help reduce the number of vehicle accidents from drivers pulling out of parking spaces. The purpose of the second public meeting is to review and discuss this alternative.
