City of Fairbanks Firefighter Sergey Streltsov rescued a family of three children and two adults from a burning apartment building in late January. Monday night Sergey was honored at City Hall during Council Meeting on with a proclamation noting his outstanding efforts. The proclamation was signed by City Mayor John Eberhart, Fairbanks North Star Borough Mayor Luke Hopkins, and North Pole Mayor Bryce Ward.
WHEREAS, at or about 3:50 am on January 29th, 2014 City of Fairbanks Firefighter Sergey Streltsov rescued a family of three small children and two adults from the second story of a burning apartment building; and
WHEREAS, Firefighter Streltsov, by displaying decisive initiative and action is credited with saving the lives of the five family members by using a portable extension ladder to effect rescue through heavy fire conditions, smoke, water and snow; and
WHEREAS, Firefighter Streltsov placed his own safety in jeopardy by taking immediate action in a dangerous situation:
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Luke Hopkins, Mayor of the Fairbanks North Star Borough, and I, John Eberhart, Mayor of the City of Fairbanks, and I, Bryce Ward, Mayor of the City of North Pole, recognize Firefighter Sergey Streltsov for his heroic act in service to the citizens of Fairbanks.
